Matched up Mentor & Mentee

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to invite you to participate of the CLAS Mentoring Program. In this program, junior faculty members are matched with senior colleagues who are outside the junior faculty member¹s home unit. This program is supplemental to, and not a replacement for disciplinary or program mentoring. All participation is voluntary.

If you are a senior faculty member and interested in participating, please complete the form, ³Volunteer to be a Mentor.² If you are a junior faculty member and interested in participating, please complete the form, ³Request a Mentor.² These forms can be accessed from this website. Please send these forms to me, in either electronic or hard copy form ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Matches will be made and faculty members will be informed of their assigned mentor/mentee in mid August. I will work with a small group of  senior faculty members in making these matches.

The initiating step for this program‹and its only required element‹is a mentoring workshop for both mentors and mentees.  This workshop will be repeated several times during the 2nd week of September so that all participating faculty members will have an opportunity to attend (matched mentors and mentees should attend the same workshop).  At this workshop, mentors and mentees will be made aware of their joint responsibilities.
They will sign an agreement, indicating the areas for which the mentee would like support.  The agreement also includes a no-fault termination at the end of the semester.

I realize that some of you may have some questions regarding this new program.  Please send me a note or visit the CLAS website.   I look forward to working with CLAS faculty in this very important program.

Sincerely,

Yvette Huet-Hudson,
Faculty Development Coordinator
