The Philosophy Department invites applications for a full-time (non-tenure-rack) Lecturer, beginning August 2008. The areas of specialization are logic and critical thinking: online logic courses for on- and off-campus students and regular critical thinking courses for computer science and engineering (as well as philosophy) students. This position combines teaching with programming and administrative responsibilities connected to the development and maintenance of the online courses. Teaching load: 2-3 courses per semester, undergraduate (graduate possible). Teaching experience required; Ph.D. required; evidence of currency in the field (logic, critical thinking, programming, online pedagogy). UNC Charlotte is a rapidly growing doctoral-level state university located in a thriving urban area with a student body of more than 22,000 and a full-time faculty of over 750. The department currently has 14 full-time and 6 part-time faculty, plus we are hiring a Distinguished Professor in Business Ethics. We offer a traditional and applied major, a Graduate Certificate in Applied Ethics, and an M.A. in Ethics and Applied Philosophy. We have a strong tradition of interdisciplinary studies involving all seven of the University's colleges, and we are closely affiliated with UNC Charlotte's Center for Professional and Applied Ethics.
