Mission Statement:The College of Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Council is a group of students including one member from each department of the College of Arts and Sciences, a career center consultant, as well as a small leadership committee of students. The purpose of this council is to serve as a resource and means of communication between students and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This council takes leadership in striving to build a sense of community among students, faculty, and administration within the college as well as to initiate and build networks through community service in relation to academics.
Purposes & Specific Goals for Committees :
Freshmen & Student Organizations:This committee will work to integrate new students on the campus, and especially those whose major is currently undeclared, to the College of Arts and Sciences by creating and/or supporting events that help them decide which path is right for them. This committee will also create presentations on departments of the College. With student organizations, this committee will aid in finding department and program-specific service projects.
Alumni & Leadership:This committee will work on sponsoring various alumni guest speakers that graduated from programs within the College of Arts and Sciences. The committee will also work closely with the Community & Scholarship committee, sharing in roles.
Public Relations:This committee will continually be in touch with all other committees in order to successfully publish event information that is sponsored by the Council. The committee will also be in touch with on and off-campus media to make the Council's presence and purpose known to the students and faculty of UNCC. Lastly, the committee will maintain the Council's space on the website.
Events:This committee will work specifically to approve and organize specific events on campus. The committee will also manage the event grants and provide all pre-approved event requests to the executive board for a final decision.
Scholarship & Community Service:This committee will create and accept requests for service projects designed for the individual. All projects approved must further a students' academic experience within their department. They will also provide all pre-approved service project requests to the executive board for a final decision.
