Department of Communication Studies seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Health Communication at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Review process will begin October 1, 2008 and continue until filled.  Position begins August 2009.  Required qualifications include:  Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree.  Expertise in one of the following areas preferred:  health communication in interpersonal, family, patient/provider contexts.  Candidates with a background in interpersonal health communication in global health contexts would be expected to participate in a planned Ph.D. program in Global Studies.  All candidates would be encouraged to participate in the University’s Health Psychology doctoral program.  The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research, teach, and advise B.A. and M.A. students in the Department of Communication Studies.  Candidates are expected to maintain a strong record of research and professional activity consistent with Ph.D.-granting academic programs.

International Studies is seeking a full time Lecturer beginning August 2008.  This is a three year, renewable non-tenure track position. Requirements for the position include:  1) a Master’s degree in International Relations or a related discipline, although a Ph. D. is preferred; 2) prior teaching experience at the college level; 3) an ability to teach in a diverse classroom; 4) a commitment to student-centered multidisciplinary education.

International Studies is an interdisciplinary program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences which emphasizes multiple approaches to the field. Teaching responsibilities will include the introductory core course and the capstone Senior Seminar, as well as existing or new courses that would apply to the program’s global and/or area studies requirements.  The position also involves significant administrative and advising responsibilities in support of the Director of International Studies.  The person hired will have a dual appointment in International Studies and Political Science or another academic department within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that is commensurate with his or her academic credentials.

The Philosophy Department invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor, beginning August 2008.  We are interested in scholars working in Philosophy of Technology (e.g., ethics/politics of emerging technologies) OR Engineering Ethics (e.g., in connection with environmental ethics and public policy).  We have an alliance with the College of Computing and Informatics (for ethics and critical thinking, as well as philosophy of mind and aesthetic computing) and we are developing a similar alliance with the Lee College of Engineering (in line with the NSF Program for Ethics in Engineering and Science).

Teaching load: two courses per semester, undergraduate and graduate.  Teaching experience required; Ph.D. required; publication appropriate to rank.  Research and service interests should enhance our ability to pursue external grants.

The Philosophy Department invites applications for a full-time (non-tenure-rack) Lecturer, beginning August 2008.  The areas of specialization are logic and critical thinking: online logic courses for on- and off-campus students and regular critical thinking courses for computer science and engineering (as well as philosophy) students.  This position combines teaching with programming and administrative responsibilities connected to the development and maintenance of the online courses.

The department currently has a Thermo Electron X-Series quadrupole ICP-MS, a Dionex DX 500 IC system, a Shimadzu TOC-V Total Carbon/Total Nitrogen Analyzer, a SEM Gas Chromatograph, a Los Gatos Research Liquid Water Isotope Analyzer, a Jordan Valley EX-3600 XRF, a CEM MARS-5 Microwave Digestion System, a Rigaku Miniflex+ XRD, a SediGraph particle-size measurement system and assorted hydrologic, geophysical and meteorological field equipment to support Earth Sciences Research. This equipment is housed in over 1750 square feet of laboratory space.
